In the world of place marketing and making it certainly isn’t all about the big boys and girls!
A few years ago we were brought in to create a narrative for the relatively small town of Ashbourne (population under 10k) by an indomitable entrepreneur and a great team of people who cared about their town and wanted it to be as successful as possible. With some cajoling and enthusiasm they managed to fund our project and not surprisingly they were brilliant to work with and had a fantastic town with an amazing offer.
They knew there was more they could and wanted to do but they simply didn’t have the resources. They decided to try and get Business Improvement District status which would create a funding pot knowing this is far from simple or guaranteed to be successful. On Friday they got the ballot result they deserved with a big YES and can now action their plans for the future.
It is so uplifting to see places that are not the obvious suspects going on a journey like this fuelled by sheer determination, energy, an appetite to do things differently and a winning mindset. We often get asked what makes places successful and it is these qualities and leadership, leadership, leadership!
Many congratulations Ashbourne!
