South Downs National Park

The newest, most populated National Park in the UK uniquely combines a biodiverse landscape with bustling towns and villages. The Park Authority recognised a need for greater awareness and understanding of the South Downs as a landscape of local, national and international importance both for conservation and attraction of visitors in a way that actively engaged their stakeholders.

The result is not only a compelling and impactful way of communicating the National Park but also how it develops a sense of place. Gateway signage has been introduced that through design and materials relays the heritage, natural form and materials of the National Park. The brand communicates the story in the National Park Centre, drives the design and navigability of the website, has spawned a sub-brand communicating the important Dark Skies message and adorns vehicles and uniforms. There is now a cohesiveness, connection and sense of place across the huge experience that is the South Downs National Park.

thinkingplace’s approach truly engaged and enthused stakeholders, made the brand easy to understand by articulating it as the ‘story of the National Park’ and ensured that we had a way of communicating our offer and improving the ‘experience’ we provide.
