Mark has over 25 years’ experience working within a number of local authorities at a senior corporate level and extensive experience in successfully delivering notable outcomes and achievements in the areas of economic growth, regeneration, housing and infrastructure development.
He has an excellent record in forging and developing strong partnership arrangements with neighbouring authorities, government departments, Local Enterprise Partnerships and local businesses in the delivery of sustainable economic outcomes. Leading on the development of new corporate plans, the production of Economic Growth and Regeneration Strategies, leading on a Comprehensive Performance Assessment Recovery Programme and a number of cultural change initiatives.
He was the Director for Economic Growth for Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council for over 10 years, before retiring in February 2025 and became an Associate Director for thinkingplace in November 2025. Mark has always been an advocate and champion of place narrative development, place branding and inspiring stakeholders to develop and grow their place. He has an in-depth knowledge of the North East and especially the potential it offers.
