thinkingplace delighted to welcome new Associate Director

We are delighted that Ian Hassall has joined the thinkingplace team as an Associate Director.

Ian is a Chartered Surveyor with considerable private and public sector experience in development, regeneration, spatial planning and place marketing. He is the former chief executive of Liverpool Land Development Company where he had responsibility for preparing strategic investment plans, direct physical project delivery and establishing and promoting public and private sector partnerships to facilitate growth, investment and jobs.

Ian also has significant local authority director level experience advising on the planning and delivery of strategic development and draws upon departmental accountability for planning, housing, land and property assets and economic development. He has a track record of proactively unlocking barriers to development, particularly in the last few years in Lancashire and Cumbria, and in stimulating and facilitating investment through positive  relationships with the private sector, (Land Securities, Urban Splash, Langtree, Igloo.) Homes England, Enterprise Partnerships and all tiers of government.

Ian has managed the preparation of many Investment Plans which have then formed the basis of project delivery funding applications and new town planning policies.  More recently he has worked with thinkingplace to develop Investment Plans and Economic Strategies which work alongside the place narrative for places such as Lowestoft and Gosport.

John Till, founding Director of thinkingplace commented; “Ian brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in the development and regeneration of places at a time when many are seeking to reinvent themselves via Towns Funds, Future High Streets Funding etc. whilst striving for economic growth. We are also seeing a major focus on housing growth through initiatives such as garden communities and increasing the supply of public land. All this activity requires a place led approach, a clear future narrative that provides strategic direction for the development and promotion of place and an ability to engage with private sector investors. thinkingplace is well equipped to deliver this activity and Ian has that unique combination of exceptional development expertise alongside a real passion for place.”
