the brief

Marketing Nottingham & Nottinghamshire is the organisation responsible for the place marketing of the city and county for all aspects of the economy bringing together the functions that manage the visitor economy, inward investment and business engagement. They have a clear remit to put the city and county on the map as a top UK destination, lead place marketing and business engagement to support it and at the heart of this is to move from separate propositions for visitor economy and inward investment to an ‘umbrella’ brand and narrative for Nottingham & Nottinghamshire as a whole.

Our brief was to work with Marketing Nottingham & Nottinghamshire and its partners to develop a place branding proposition that:

  • articulates a unique, forward-looking identity and ‘sense of place’ for Nottingham & Nottinghamshire
  • tells a compelling ‘story’ or narrative, with a dynamic and coherent set of marketing messages tailored to the key target audiences

  • a unified approach to place-marketing within Nottingham & Nottinghamshire with a fresh narrative championed by local stakeholders
  • a visual identity and visual language system to bring the narrative ‘to life’
  • brand architecture review and the development of sub-brands for visit, invest and ambassadors seen on the website https://www.marketingng.co.uk/
  • toolkit and brand guidelines to share among key stakeholders to ensure consistency of the approach
  • understanding place layering and macro-economic influences when considering other place organisations such as the West Midlands Combined Authority, LEP etc.
